It was during a time when the Guelphs and Ghibellines were rivals and the Guelphs split into two different groups known as the Whites and Blacks. Dante was part of the Whites and was later exiled from Florence. During Dante’s life he had many friends and foes, which he places in his Divine Comedy. The Divine Comedy is based on his love for Beatrice and politics. What strikes very interesting, and is highly debated, is if the portrayal of God’s love is correct in this work or art.
